Why invest in the Netherlands

Small country, Large opportunities

The Netherlands is home to the headquarters of many large multinational companies, both Dutch and international. For example; Unilever, Heineken, Capgemini, KPMG, Tesla Motors, IKEA, Adidas, Oracle and Akzo Nobel. The Netherlands has an open business climate with access to a highly educated, multilingual workforce.

In terms of the real estate market in the Netherlands, the rise of  incoming international companies has brought with it a growing shortage of housing. This is estimated to continue to grow until 2020 at the least. At the beginning of 2018 the Netherlands had a shortage of more than 200.000 homes. By 2020, that shortage is expected to grow to 235.000 homes. Too few homes are being built in order to keep up with the rising demand, and that will likely continue until 2020.

This shortage is exactly where Sky Real Estate comes in. The Dutch residential investment market is a transparent and relatively stable market. There is high demand for housing in the medium term, driven by fundamental demographic and economic trends. Furthermore, government policy reforms are taking place which are aimed at creating a more flexible housing market with more opportunities for investors.

We at Sky Real Estate offer you as a foreign investor to participate in the Dutch real estate market. More information can be found on the Foreign investors page.

The Netherlands is located in western Europe. It borders with Belgium in the south and Germany in the east. With its long North Sea coast (451 km) the climate of the Netherlands is a typical mild maritime climate; plenty of rain, but winters are rarely severe and summers are rarely very hot.

The Netherlands is divided into 12 provinces, each with its own capital and semi-independent administration. Each province has its own history and traditions, and therefore a unique atmosphere. Thus, the richness of the Netherlands is rooted in its diversity.

This small country, with 17 million inhabitants living on 41,543 square kilometers, beats many larger economies and ranks number 17 on the world GDP (Gross Domestic Product) scale. It is a business-friendly country has always been a land of entrepreneurs, with the Dutch mastering the English language in order to compete in the global market. The Dutch East India Company was founded in 1602 as the first multinational company in the world. Today, many global companies like Unilever, Heineken, Capgemini, KPMG, Tesla Motors, IKEA, Adidas, Oracle and Akzo Nobel have their European headquarters in the Netherlands.

Research shows that more than 90% of the Dutch population is able to converse in English. According to some, the main reasons for the high number of English speakers is the country’s small size, dependency on international trade, and the use of subtitles in television and films rather than audio dubbing.
